The Instrument

The performance of these rhythms is distinguished by the use of the bacalhau stick — a thin rod approximately 35 cm in length, traditionally crafted from tree branches, bamboo, or coconut leaf stems, and sometimes from synthetic materials such as nylon or plastic. It is held in the left hand and used to strike the lower drumhead, producing a characteristic articulation and rhythmic definition unique to the instrument.

This session features a performance by percussion master Robson Batata, delivering expressive phrasing, rhythmic precision, and authentic articulation throughout the recordings.

Recording using a pair of Neumann KM184, a Neumann TLM 102 and a AKG C414. The preamp section used was a pair of Chandler Germ 500 MK2, a pair of Millennia HV-35 and a Shadow Hills Dual Vandergraph Compressor (-1DB GR) on Room Mics, routed in a Apogee Ensemble MK2.

KONTAKT (FULL VERSION)

The new GUI comes with a better level meters on each microphone, in addition to a wider waveform display, making loops easier to view and making the assembly of grooves simpler. Also, a text parameters on each Knob and a Standard format display of effects in all new UI’s (V4).
